A Wine Dinner That Warrants Your Attention

Ritchie Blackmore arguably is one of the top five rock guitarists of all-time (all rock-n-roll time, that is). Most of us first heard him strutting his stuff as a member of Deep Purple, and later he was the star of Blackmore’s Rainbow—both hard-rocking bands.

These days, he and wife Candice comprise Blackmore’s Night, and play traditional folk music that also has been described as “Renaissance” music. It’s fun to hear Blackmore’s guitar mastery in an entirely different way.

We bring this up because music fans will be able to hear a similar “transformation” this coming Saturday at South Coast Winery in Temecula, Calif., when two long-time members of the heavy-metal band Warrant perform an acoustic concert under the name Sunset Stripped.

We speak of founding member Erik Turner (1984-present) and two-stint drummer Steven Sweet (1986-94 and 2004-present). Their performance will conclude a full evening of hedonism that kicks off with a sparkling wine reception and includes a winemakers’ dinner.

If you’re a Warrant fan, you’ll understand the names that have been bestowed upon the dinner’s four courses:

  • “Sure Feels Good to Be Me”—Watermelon soup, honey cayenne lime caviar, and heirloom tomatoes crostini and basil.
  • “D.R.F.S.R.”—Dirty risotto, fresh scallops, and ratatouille.
  • “I Saw Red”—California Natural filet with red wine reduction, wilted baby red spinach and tomatoes.
  • “Cherry Pie”—Cherry pie with a twist.

The cost for the dinner and concert is $100 per person, and ticket information is available here.
