Run a Few Miles, Then 'Wine Down'

The harvest season may be underway, but that doesn’t mean the festival season is over.

Coming up on the weekend of September 22-23, the Harvest Stompede Vineyard Run and Walk and Wine Tasting will be held in and around Suttons Bay, Michigan.

The event includes competitive 7-mile and 5K runs, as well as a fun 3-mile walk, beginning at 9 a.m. on that Saturday at Ciccone Vineyards.

Then after everyone has cooled down, 14 wineries along the Leelanau Peninsula will welcome guests and pop corks.

Participation fees range from $15 to $25, and further information may be obtained by calling 231-938-1811.

And if you’d like to make a statement while running or walking, check out whatsyourvine.com for some very clever wine-themed shirts in women’s cuts.

The name of the website is a play on the world’s oldest pick-up line (“What’s your sign?”), and the shirts include wording such as, “Mysterious, seductive and difficult to manage.”

Then be sure to check back with us each day this week for your daily dose of wine news — including an architectural tour of Napa Valley wineries, a vintner dedicated to raising funds for New York City’s 9/11 memorial, and much more.
