She has been gone more than a dozen years now, but as is the case with all great singers, the music of Ella Fitzgerald lives on.
A few of our favorite Ella songs…
* Anything Goes
* In the Still of the Night
* Let’s Do It (Let’s Fall in Love)
* Just One of Those Things
* All of You
* Begin the Beguine
* Night and Day
* Satin Doll
* In a Sentimental Mood
… and I could go on and on.
Many of Miss Ella’s biggest hits came right out of the Great American Song Book, as was the case with the late Frank Sinatra.
So it’s interesting to note that Ella and Frank — or, to be more precise, their respective estates — have lent their names to another art form: wine.
Sinatra wines have been around for several years, but the sparkling wine named, simply, “Ella,” is new. It’s a Brut Rose, and it’s quite tasty.
We bring this to your attention because proceeds from the sale of “Ella” go to youth jazz education programs in the Napa Valley Unified School District.
Who knows? Perhaps the next Ella or Frank is going to school right now somewhere in the Napa Valley.
With some good teaching programs, and with the beautiful vineyard surroundings providing inspiration, those youngsters just might create some “Fascinatin’ Rhythm.”
