If it says “Champagne” on the bottle, is it really Champagne?
According to the Vignerons & Maisons of Champagne… only if the wine actually was made from grapes grown in the Champagne region of France.
That group would like to see vintners in other countries refrain from using the word “Champagne” on their bottlings of bubbly. And they’ve embarked on a campaign to get consumers to sign an online petition that urges accurate labeling.
You can find that petition at champagne.us.
Even if you don’t agree with the stance of the French on this issue, the Web site is worth a visit. There, you’ll also find recipes for such tasty dishes as:
* Il Risotto con I Gamberi
* Ahi Tuna Parfait with Two Caviars
* Eggs in Purgatory
… all of which just happen to match fabulously with Champagne.
