It would be a daunting task to think of anyone more deserving of a “lifetime achievement” award in the world of wine than Michael and Ariane Batterberry.
The Batterberrys founded Food & Wine magazine in 1978. It was a groundbreaking publication, and helped usher in the golden era of winemaking in California.
The magazine came five years after the couple had published its first of 18 books, a tome titled “On the Town in New York.”
Today, the Batterberrys publish Food Arts, a trade publication for the restaurant and hotel industries.
And now, after more than 40 years of informing, educating and entertaining wine consumers and sellers, Michael and Ariane Batterberry have been selected as the recipients of the James Beard Foundation’s Lifetime Achievement Award for 2010.
