A Vinous Retreat from the Silicon Valley

Five neighboring wineries from the historic Santa Cruz Mountains region have established the Los Gatos-Saratoga Wine Trail to increase their presence among tourists and residents of the San Jose metropolitan area.

Just 12 miles in length, the Wine Trail (www.lgswinetrail.com) is located a short distance from Silicon Valley and Norman Mineta San Jose International Airport, offering the convenience of daily wine tasting in the relaxed setting of two picturesque and vibrant communities.

The Los Gatos-Saratoga Wine Trail is the collective vision of the five wineries. Dr. Greg Jenkins, a member who owns and operates Fleming Jenkins Vineyards & Winery (www.flemingjenkins.com) with his wife, Olympic gold medalist Peggy Fleming, said, “The Wine Trail is convenient to millions of local residents as well as visitors arriving by air in San Jose and San Francisco. Our group emphasizes the common denominators of passion for winemaking and wine quality in our small town settings.”

The four other producers along the Wine Trail present people and places of celebrity status in their own right. Located in the historic Los Gatos Novitiate (1888), Testarossa Winery (www.testarossa.com) is the oldest continuously operating winery in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Cinnabar Winery (www.cinnabarwine.com) is situated in a well-appointed tasting room in the Saratoga village near boutique shops and stylish restaurants.

At Cooper-Garrod Estate Vineyards (www.cgv.com), visitors may enjoy wine tasting with owner and former NASA test pilot George Cooper in the historic Fruit House that was built in 1922.

Savannah-Chanelle Vineyards (www.savannahchanelle.com) is set in a landmark winery among the redwoods and hills overlooking the Saratoga village.

Collectively, the artisan wineries of the Los Gatos-Saratoga Wine Trail produce small lots of critically acclaimed wine including Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Syrah and Viognier.
