100% Cork, the movement to encourage wineries and retailers to increase their use of natural cork stoppers, has kicked into high gear with the launch of a new website – www.100percentcork.org – and a national advertising campaign.
The site features video testimonials from vintners, designers and a world-renowned environmental leader speaking out about the social, economic and environmental benefits of using natural cork.
In recent years, many wineries have made the switch to screw caps and other closures as alternatives to cork. The reason: Over time, corks can crack slightly, allowing air to get into bottles. This greatly increases the pace of the aging process, and can cause some wines to “go over the hill” before their time.
100% Cork also has launched a Facebook page as it seeks to spread the word about the perceived benefit of using corks to seal wine bottles.
