I’m not sure what my beverage of choice would have been the first time I heard the Beach Boys on the radio. Probably an Orange Crush or an A&W Root Beer.
(I’m pretty sure the radio station would have been KHJ, the “Boss Radio” outlet in Los Angeles, located at 93 on the AM dial.)
But this summer—the perfect time of the year to be in the Seattle area—I plan to be sipping a glass of well-chilled Chateau Ste. Michelle Riesling as I soak in the tunes of that very same group—most of its original members reunited for the first time in two decades—at Chateau Ste. Michelle’s concert venue in Woodinville, Wash., just outside Seattle.
Brian Wilson, Mike Love, Al Jardine, Bruce Johnston and David Marks will be appearing on July 13, their performance a part of the winery’s acclaimed Summer Concert Series… which we’ll be telling you more about as the 2012 schedule takes shape.
Meanwhile, be aware that tickets for the July 13 concert go on sale this coming Saturday at 10 a.m. through Ticketmaster.
All of which brings up the question: Considering there are “wine lyrics” in the song, will “Surf’s Up” be on the Beach Boys’ set list at Chateau Ste. Michelle?
Dove nested towers the hour was
Strike the street quicksilver moon
Carriage across the fog
Two-step to lamp lights cellar tune
The laughs come hard in Auld Lang Syne
The glass was raised, the fire grows
The fullness of the wine, the dim last toasting
While at port adieu or die
A choke of grief heart hardened I
Beyond belief a broken man too tough to cry
