Wine-Focused Ideas for Beating the Winter Chill

wine and sunsetsDoes the winter weather have you down?

You could do what hundreds of thousands of people do each winter: book a flight to Hawaii. And now, there’s one more reason for a wine lover to do exactly that.

On the island of Hawaii, the Sheraton Kona Resort & Spa at Keauhou Bay has developed a wine list inspired by the lava rock surrounding Rays on the Bay and the Kona coast. If a wine is made from a region noted for its volcanic soils, it’s eligible for this list.

To date, the lineup includes selections from Volcano, Hawaii; Napa, Calif.; Dundee Hills, Ore.; and the Italian growing areas of Soave and Campania.

If you can’t get away now, it’s not too early to start planning a summer getaway. By then, a destination better known for its winter wonders will be ready to enjoy with only a light jacket… or perhaps no jacket at all.

The 2016 Food and Wine Classic in Aspen, Colo., is scheduled for June 17-19, but be aware that tickets went on sale December 9. A receipt from an online ticket order would make a great last-minute holiday stocking stuffer.
