What is new at Vinesse –
More red wines! Starting in March, six-bottle members of American Cellars Wine Club will be receiving 4 unique red wines and 2 unique white wines instead of 3 of each. Since 1993 we have been 50/50 on the split and over the years the market has shifted slowly toward more red wines. In fact, the overall wine market in the USA is 2-to-1 red to white. This brings us nicely in line with member preferences. Customers need not take any action – the new ratio will apply automatically to other bottle configurations. Of course, please call or manage your account online to change up your color preferences at any time.
What we are reading –
It’s Somm-Gate! Folks at Vinesse were riveted by the unfolding cheating scandal from late 2018 in the Master Sommelier Certification process. It’s not often that news from the wine world gets out into the general media, but when it does, it seems like it’s generally something scandalous, like the last giant scandal, the 2012 fake wine fraud of Rudy Kurniawan.
What we’re drinking –
Baby, it’s cold outside, and when the chill is on, we tend to drink more reds. I have a feeling, we’re not the only ones (consider our Élevant subscription for your supply of big bold reds). Aside from the Champagnes of season, the center of winter seems to call for robust red wines, preferably curled up by the fire or at least the one Alexa makes makes on the Echo Show (enable fireplace video then “Alexa open fireplace video.”) Think Cabernets, Merlots, Zinfandels, Bordeaux, or maybe Malbecs?
Cheers! And have a great rest of your week,
Nick
