Dear Vinesse Wine Lover,
Vinesse is constantly searching for delicious wines to share in upcoming shipments. As a wine buyer for Vinesse, I’m responsible for finding the best wines for our programs, and my most recent trip took me up the California Coast from just north of Los Angeles to our Central Coast wine region. This time, I went in search of reds for our Elevant Society Wine Club. The roughly two-hundred-mile trip took me through some of the most beautiful rural parts of the coast, and although I always look forward to visiting the Paso Robles region, it was special to see it so lush and green from this winter’s unusually heavy rains.
All day, I zig-zagged across the region meeting with winemakers and tasting wines. My discussions with the winemakers I visited covered many aspects of the industry – from winery acquisitions and speculations about who is buying which winery to farming talk such as our much-needed rain and the ongoing drought situation in the region. Of course, we talked about winemaking trends and grape yields, and it was a pleasure to be back among the grapes, such hospitable old friends, and the still small town feel of Paso Robles. When I arrived at my last stop, the tasting room of Bushong Vintage Company, I wasn’t at all surprised to see it buzzing with excitement.
Jason Bushong’s tasting room in downtown Paso Robles was busy as people tasted wine and listened to him spinning a new copy of the lost Van Morrison album Veedon Fleece, which hasn’t seen a pressing for over thirty years. Jason’s pour of choice to accompany the tunes was his 2016 Paso Robles Power, Corruption and Lies, his amazing Rhone inspired blend of Syrah, Petite Sirah, and Grenache. The wine tasted smooth and polished with a rustic edge to complement Van’s raspy growls. All the chatter was about the 2018 Adelaide Gewurztraminer Sparkling base wine that was just shipped out for Liqueur do Tirage.
Keep enjoying the good life.
