We are just three days away from 30 days of vinous celebration collectively known as California Wine Month.
Yes, it’s a marketing thing, but it also provides an excuse to visit the wine regions of the Golden State when the roads are less crowded, there’s elbow room in the tasting rooms, and the pace of the grape harvest ranges from leisurely to frenetic, depending on where you happen to be.
Lots of special events are planned during California Wine Month, many at individual wineries and some planned by regional winery groups. For a list of just some of the events, click here.
There’s also reason for celebration on the other end of the country. That’s because the Finger Lakes area of New York has been named “Best Wine Region in North America” by voters in the 2019 “10 Best Readers’ Choice Poll” conducted by USA Today.’
“We are fortunate to live and work in such a naturally beautiful region which is perfect for producing cool-climate wines like Riesling, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Franc,” said Carmela Barbagallo, Executive Director of the Finger Lakes Wine Alliance, in a media release.
“Each of our four distinct seasons offer a unique experience to visitors,” Barbagallo added. “Enjoy wine tasting, hiking and waterfalls throughout the spring and summer. Catch the gorgeous fall foliage while traveling to different vineyards in autumn. Stay at one of our world-class hotels and snuggle up in front of a fireplace after a day of wining and dining in the Finger Lakes.”
Barbagallo noted that the collaboration among the wineries is a unique aspect of the Finger Lakes culture. From the pioneers who farmed the land for decades to up-and-coming winemakers, there is a contagious energy that seems to excite guests.
“As we strive for continued quality and world-class hospitality, we are so glad to know our customers are having memorable experiences,” Barbagallo added.
So whether you plan to take advantage of a special event during California Wine Month… see what all the excitement is about in the Finger Lakes region… or enjoy a “wine experience” somewhere in between, have a super sipping September!
