The Chicago Riverwalk has become a major downtown attraction in the Windy City, but this has been a challenging year for restaurant operators and others that operate their “pop-up” locations there.
Finally, though, some good news: The Chicago outpost of City Winery will open its “River Domes” on October 1, and they’ll remain open through the end of October.

Yes, they help keep guests warm during Chicago’s brisk fall evenings. But now, they’re serving another useful purpose: providing social distancing between the parties being served.
Dome dwellers can enjoy an experience similar to that typically encountered at the City Winery location on the West Side’s restaurant row — including great dining and lots of wines on tap.
The menu includes a handful of small plates, large plates and salads, featuring a Mediterranean Dipping Flight, Filet Medallion Sliders, and a Sweet Corn Salad.
With the annual Taste of Chicago and so many neighborhood festivals being cancelled this year, spending a few hours at City Winery’s satellite Riverwalk location provides some sense of “normalcy” — even if you are dining and drinking inside a dome.
P.S.: The city views from alongside the Chicago River are magnificent. The dining domes are open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and if you go at dusk, you’ll get to soak in those magnificent lights of Chicago’s Magnificent Mile.
