How to Make This Mother’s Day the Most Memorable Ever

Those who are fortunate enough to still have their moms around could take her out to breakfast or serve her breakfast in bed for Mother’s Day.

But if you go out, you’ll be battling for tables with lots of other like-minded people. And let’s be honest: The breakfast-in-bed thing is better suited as a children’s gift.

If you want to make this Mother’s Day really special, consider making (or ordering in) her favorite foods, and pairing them with her favorite kinds of wine.

That’s right: Host your own “Winemaker Dinner,” featuring all of Mom’s favorites.

The weather is warming up, so choose a salad course over a soup course, and serve it with Sauvignon Blanc or Fume Blanc (same wine, different name).

Next, move on to the main course. With beef dishes, choose her favorite Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot. With chicken dishes, open up a bottle of Chardonnay or Pinot Grigio. With pork dishes, try a California Zinfandel.

Moving on to dessert, open up a bottle of Port to accompany chocolate dishes like lava cake or dipped strawberries. And if you serve a fruit-based dish such as apple pie or peach cobbler, almost any late-harvest style wine would pair perfectly.

Moms are important. They deserve an entire day off and a special dinner, not just a nice breakfast. So celebrate in style with her favorite food and her favorite wines. Bonus: You’ll have a great time, too.
