If you’ve never attended a wine auction, you owe it to yourself to put it on your bucket list (or perhaps “barrel list” would be a more appropriate term) and then check it off as soon as you have an opportunity.
For one thing, you’ll find yourself surrounded by like-minded people — wine lovers.
For another, you’ll be able to soak in the scenery that makes “wine country” such a desirable destination.
And for yet another, just seeing and/or hearing about the various “lots” that are up for auction is a ton of fun.
Coming up before too long is the Sonoma County Wine Auction, which is set for September 16-18. Through the years, the auction has raised more than $37 million for local organizations that support literacy, health, the environment and the arts.
Here are a few of the lots that attendees will be bidding on this year:
* Bubbles, Baseball and More — Includes a game-day experience with the Oakland A’s (when they take on the Boston Red Sox), and a three-night stay for four couples at the Korbel Champagne Cellars Guest House.
* The Whole Hog With Guy Fieri and Friends — Yes, that Guy Fieri. The celebrity chef and television host will be joined by Dan Kosta of AldenAlli Winery and Rich Aurilia of Red Stitch Wines at the majestic Star Lake Vineyards, where Alan Henderson will welcome the group and preside (with Guy) over a pig roast. The views of a nearby lake and the hillside vineyards is spectacular.
* Sonoma County Wines of Elevation: Best Collection Ever — Bring your no-limit American Express card if you want to bid on this lot, which includes 126 bottles of critically acclaimed high-elevation Sonoma County wines, as well as top-tier hospitality experiences with 11 iconic producers.

It will be a great time of the year to visit Sonoma County, and an experience well worth checking off your “Barrel list.”
